Thanks for your interest in WOOD175: Learning the Tormach PCNC 440 Mill!

In order to use the Tormach PCNC 440 computer numerical control (CNC) mill in the Innovation Wyrkshop woodshop, you must attend this workshop. Please make sure that you've already attended and passed SAF101: Basic Safety in the Innovation Wyrkshop and SAF150: Woodshop Safety before completing this workshop. By the end of the course, students will:

  • Be able to identify the Tormach PCNC mill
  • Understand tooling
  • Understand how to turn on and set up the mill safely
  • Understand work offsets
  • Understand the very basics of conversation programming routines

Notably, WRK175 covers the very basics of operating the Tormach, but because of the inherent complexity of the Tormach, additional 200-level classes detail how to use Fusion 360 for CAM (computer aided motion) programming, as well as how to use CAM files on the Tormach. Please make sure to enroll in the Maker Access Pass and complete SAF101: Basic Safety in the Innovation Wyrkshop and SAF150: Woodshop Safety  before you complete the WOOD175 badge. You can use your badges to track what you've learned, show potential employers, and (after earning enough badges) even receive fun perks. Almost all of our equipment requires training and badges before use.
