Thanks for your interest in WOOD101: Woodshop Tool Best Practices! Please note that this is an introductory online, self-guided workshop. Immediately after signing up, you'll receive an email with the link and passcode to access the course. WOOD101 can be found by enrolling in your local instance of the Maker Access Pass and navigating to Complete a Workshop > Woodshop > WOOD101: Woodshop Tool Best Practices.
Please make sure that you've already attended and passed SAF150: Woodshop Safety before completing this workshop. By the end of the course, you should have a firm handle on:
- A brief overview of the woodworking landscape.
- Important terms and definitions when using drills, impact drivers, rotary tools and pneumatic tools.
- Why we might use squares, clamps and glue.
- Common tools found in our Wyrkshop woodshop, including Dewalt drills, impact drivers and brad nailer (as well as common drill settings adjustments), speed squares and combination squares, c-clamps and bar clamps, and Dremel rotary tools.
- Beginner fundamental practices in a wood shop, including how to properly glue up a project, how and why to create a pilot hole and counter sink, and why you should use wood screws (as well as what makes them special).
Please make sure to enroll in the Maker Access Pass and complete SAF150: Woodshop Safety before you complete the WOOD101 badge. You can use your badges to track what you've learned, show potential employers, and (after earning enough badges) even receive fun perks. Almost all of our equipment requires training and badges before use.
