Thanks for your interest in CAD101: Learning Onshape!

This is an introductory online, self-guided computer-aided design (CAD) workshop hosted at the University of Wyoming Innovation Wyrkshop makerspace, and teaches you how to get started using Onshape, an excellent introductory, browser-based CAD software. Immediately after signing up, you'll receive an email with the link and passcode to access the course. CAD101 can be found by enrolling in your local instance of the Maker Access Pass and navigating to Complete a Workshop Modeling & Design > CAD101: Learning Onshape.

Onshape is not quite as powerful as industry-leading CAD programs such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360, but comes equipped with a perfectly-suitable set of tools to help introduce makers to the world of computer-aided design. Students, academic staff, and educators, and others with a .edu email address can easily access a free educational license, while members of the public without a .edu address can simply use the free Onshape software. Please feel free to access Onshape on your personal laptop, or borrow one of our 20 laptops during the course. Work is saved automatically in the browser-based software, so there's no need to save your work to a USB!

By the end of the online, self-guided CAD101 workshop, you should have a firm understanding of the workflow necessary to begin CAD modeling in Onshape, as well as a few tips and tricks to ensure you're designing like a pro.

Please make sure to enroll in the Maker Access Pass to ensure you receive a badge at the end of this course. You can use your badges to track what you've learned, show potential employers, and (after earning enough badges) even receive fun perks. Almost all of our equipment requires training and badges before use.
